Television took center stage on Monday night at the 2026 Primetime Emmys. Widow’s Bay, The Pitt, and DTF St. Louis walked home with the night’s biggest awards, while Beef disappointed.

Great night for Widow’s Bay and The Pitt
Apple TV has another Emmy-winning comedy in Widow’s Bay. Katie Dippold’s horror comedy won six Emmys tonight, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Matthew Rhys), Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Kate O’Flynn), Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Stephen Root), Directing for a Comedy Series (Hiro Murai), and Writing for a Comedy Series (Katie Dippold).
Overall, Widow’s Bay won 14 of 19 Emmys across the Primetime and Creative Arts ceremonies. The 14 wins is the new record for one season of a comedy series, breaking the previous record of 13 held by The Studio.
Apple TV has become the gold standard in the comedy categories. Since 2021, three Apple TV shows—Ted Lasso, The Studio, and Widow’s Bay—have won four of the last six Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Aside from his win for Outstanding Lead Actor, Rhys took home Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Netflix’s The Beast in Me. Rhys is the first actor to win two lead acting awards in one year. Rhys has also now become the first actor to win all three lead categories, as he previously won Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Americans.

It’s a perfect five-for-five for Jean Smart, who won her fifth Emmy for portraying Deborah Vance in Hacks. Smart is now the first performer to win an Emmy for every season of a show. Smart’s eighth career Emmy now puts her in a tie with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman for the most Emmys ever by a performer.
The Pitt season 2 unsurprisingly won Outstanding Drama Series and Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Noah Wyle). However, The Pitt did not win in the supporting acting categories, where they were expected to win both. Instead, Allison Janney and Tom Pelphrey won in supporting for The Diplomat and Task, respectively.

Pluribus’ Rhea Seehorn triumphed in the lead drama acting category, while Vince Gilligan won in dramatic writing. Meanwhile, DTF St. Louis won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Emmys 2026: Losers
Tough night for Beef

Beef could not replicate the success of season 1, which won eight Emmys in 2023. Despite leading the limited series categories with 16 Emmy nominations, Beef season 2 won three total awards, but none in the major categories.
The final season of Hacks ran into the Widow’s Bay buzzsaw. Smart’s win was the only victory on the night for the hit HBO Max comedy. Overall, Hacks season 5 won two Emmys despite 24 nominations.
