The bar for Twitch Affiliate is lower than most new streamers expect, and Twitch made it lower still in mid-2025. Four metrics, a 30-day rolling window, and a 2FA toggle stand between you and monetization. Here is what each one actually means.
The Four Requirements
Twitch’s official Affiliate requirements are precise about both the numbers and the timeframe. All four must be met within the same 30-day window, not cumulatively over your channel’s lifetime.
25 followers. This is a one-time threshold. Once your follower count hits 25, it stays checked off regardless of what happens to that number afterward.
4 hours of total stream time. Four hours spread across your streams, not in a single session. Four one-hour streams count.
4 unique streaming days. Separate calendar days, not separate sessions on the same day.
An average of 3 concurrent viewers across those 4 days. This is the metric that trips people up most often. Twitch requires 3 simultaneous viewers, not 3 total view-count sessions.
A stream where 10 people watched for 30 seconds each and your peak was 2 concurrent does not count.
Days where you fall below that 3-viewer average do not disqualify you; they simply don’t count toward your 4 qualifying days, so you need 4 separate days where the average concurrent viewership hits 3 or above.
The 30-day window is rolling, not calendar-month-based. Your progress is tracked in the Achievements section of your Creator Dashboard, which reflects the last 30 days only.
The main Creator Dashboard shows all-time stats, which can be misleading when you’re trying to judge eligibility. Watch the Achievements tab, not the summary view.
The Timeline: How Long Does It Actually Take?
Two separate clocks run once you start pursuing Affiliate status.
The first is the 30-day eligibility window. You need to stack all four metrics within that period. A streamer who hits 25 followers on day 1, streams on days 1, 8, 15, and 22, logs 4+ hours, and averages 3+ concurrent viewers on each of those days is eligible by day 22.
There is no required minimum time, only the minimum activity.
The second clock starts after eligibility. Once your channel meets all four requirements, Twitch typically sends an Affiliate invite within 24 to 48 hours. In some cases that stretches to 72 hours.
If three full days pass with no invite after you can confirm eligibility in the Achievements tab, Twitch’s own guidance says to contact support directly.
Achievement data can itself take 24 to 48 hours to sync, so there is a brief lag between completing a requirement and seeing it reflected in the dashboard. Don’t panic if a qualifying stream doesn’t show up immediately.
Before the Invite Arrives: 2FA and Age Requirements
Two non-metric conditions must also be in place before onboarding can begin.
Two-Factor Authentication. You must have 2FA enabled on your Twitch account to proceed with Affiliate onboarding. Twitch won’t send the invite if this isn’t set up.
Enable it in your account security settings before you hit the streaming targets, not after, so there’s no delay.
Age and parental consent. The Affiliate Program is available globally, with no geographic restrictions. Streamers aged 13 to 17 can join, but a parent or guardian must agree to the Monetized Streamer Agreement (MSA) on their behalf.
What Affiliate Status Actually Unlocks
Meeting the requirements gets you access to four revenue streams and a handful of quality-of-life upgrades.
Subscriptions let viewers pay a monthly fee in exchange for channel perks you define. Bits (Cheering) lets you earn revenue when viewers cheer during streams using Twitch’s virtual currency. Ad Revenue opens the door to earning from ads served on your channel.
Channel Points are a free engagement tool that lets you create custom redeemable rewards for your community, something Affiliate status unlocks but doesn’t require viewers to spend money on.
On the storage side, Affiliates get 14 days of VOD storage instead of the 7 days available to regular streamers, which matters if you rely on past broadcasts for discoverability or clips.
The payout threshold for most Affiliates is $50, and payout information changes made after the 8th of the month won’t apply until the following month’s cycle.
If you leave the Affiliate program without hitting $50 in accrued earnings, no payout is issued, though the balance remains on the account.
Onboarding Steps After the Invite
The invite triggers a multi-step onboarding process you complete through your Payout Onboarding dashboard. Steps include completing a tax interview, selecting a payout method, and signing the Monetized Streamer Agreement.
Tax interview processing takes 24 to 48 hours, occasionally up to 72 hours.
Payout methods vary in their requirements. PayPal and eCheck or local bank transfers do not require a zip or postal code during setup, which matters if your address doesn’t fit the zip-code field in other payment options.
If you need to restart onboarding at any point, using the Start Over option in your Payout Onboarding dashboard clears your current payout information, resets the method to Hold Payouts, and requires you to complete all steps again from scratch.
If you’re equipping your stream for the road to Affiliate, the gear conversation is worth having early, right streaming microphone can make a significant difference to average concurrent viewership, since audio quality affects whether new viewers stay past the first minute.
What Happens If You Leave
Leaving the Affiliate program requires contacting Twitch Support directly and verifying your identity before the request is processed. Twitch does not offer a self-service offboarding toggle.
Once offboarding completes, active subscriptions are cancelled and subscribers are notified, though they’re not told why. Any unpaid balance above the $50 threshold is still paid out on the normal schedule.
Streamers who voluntarily leave typically retain their completed Affiliate Achievements, which means they may not need to re-meet the four requirements to rejoin. Streamers removed by Twitch for policy violations face potential restrictions on eligibility to return.
FAQs About Twitch Affiliate Requirements
Do All Four Requirements Have to Be Met in the Same Month?
Not in the calendar-month sense, but yes within a 30-day window. The window is rolling, so it doesn’t reset on the 1st of each month. All four metrics must appear in the Achievements section simultaneously, which tracks only the most recent 30 days.
Does a Stream Where I Average 2 Viewers Hurt My Progress?
No. Days below the 3-viewer average don’t count toward your four qualifying days, but they don’t penalize you either. You simply need to accumulate four separate qualifying days within the 30-day window.
How Do I Track My Progress Toward Affiliate?
Use the Achievements section in your Creator Dashboard, not the main dashboard summary. The main view shows all-time stats, while Achievements reflects the last 30 days. Note that achievement data can take up to 48 hours to sync after a qualifying stream.
Can I Get Affiliate Status in Multiple Countries?
The program has no geographic restrictions and is available to eligible streamers worldwide.
What If I Never Receive My Affiliate Invite?
If more than three days pass after you’ve confirmed eligibility in the Achievements tab and no invite arrives, contact Twitch Support. Don’t assume the invite is still in transit after 72 hours.
Can I Be Both a Twitch Affiliate and a YouTube Partner?
You can hold YouTube Partner status and Twitch Affiliate status at the same time, since they’re separate platforms with separate programs. What you cannot do is hold Twitch Affiliate and Twitch Partner status simultaneously on the same account.
What Happens to My Subscribers If I Leave Affiliate?
Active subscriptions are cancelled when offboarding is complete. Subscribers receive a notification that their subscription has been cancelled, but Twitch does not disclose the reason to them.
Multiple Accounts and the Partner Question
A single person can hold Affiliate status on up to 5 accounts simultaneously. Each account must independently meet the four requirements and complete its own onboarding, including separate tax forms and a signed MSA.
Channels that share an email address still require separate onboarding per channel. If you somehow exceed five Affiliate accounts, Twitch removes monetization from the accounts with the least activity.
You cannot hold Affiliate and Partner status at the same time. Reaching Partner replaces your Affiliate status; you don’t carry both tiers.
For streamers who already have Affiliate status and are researching comparable monetization programs, the YouTube Partner Program requirements structure, YouTube Partner Program breakdown, offers a useful point of comparison, particularly around watch-hour thresholds versus Twitch’s concurrent-viewer model.
Start Streaming With the Numbers in Mind
The honest path to Affiliate is narrower than the raw requirements suggest. Getting to 25 followers is straightforward; averaging 3 concurrent viewers across 4 separate days within a 30-day window is where most new streamers stall.
Prioritize discoverability and retention over raw hours streamed. A 2-hour stream where 4 people watch consistently does more for your Affiliate progress than a 5-hour marathon where peak viewership hovers at 1.
Hit 2FA setup before your last qualifying stream so the invite process starts the moment you’re eligible.
